Role Description

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support our accounting and administrative operations within a structural steel manufacturing environment. This role performs a broad range of accounting duties including transactional accounting, cost tracking, payroll support, and regulatory reporting. The Senior Accountant works under the direction of the Bookkeeper and collaborates closely with production, HR, and project management teams to ensure accurate financial and compliance records.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting

  • Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Prepare and post journal entries for recurring and non-recurring transactions.
  • Perform bank, credit card, and account reconciliations.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Maintain organized digital and physical accounting files.

Manufacturing & Cost Accounting

  • Track and analyze job costs, including labor, materials, subcontracting, and overhead.
  • Review Bills of Materials (BOMs), work orders, and production reports for accuracy.
  • Assist with inventory accounting, including cycle counts and variance analysis.
  • Support costing updates and provide data for pricing, estimating, and profitability analysis.

Payroll & Compliance

  • Support payroll processing and year-end reporting activities, including W-2s, 1099s, and ACA reporting.
  • Maintain employee payroll records in partnership with HR.
  • Help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll and labor regulations.

Tax & Regulatory Reporting

  • Assist with preparation and filing of sales tax, use tax, and other state/local tax reports.
  • Support quarterly and annual filings such as 941s, 940s, and state unemployment reports.
  • Maintain documentation for audits, compliance checks, and regulatory reviews.
  • Prepare internal financial reports, cost summaries, and variance analyses.
  • Compile data for budgeting, forecasting, and job performance tracking.
  • Research discrepancies and communicate findings and recommendations to leadership.
  • Collaborate with purchasing, production, HR, and project management teams to maintain accurate financial data flow.
  • Provide accounting support for operational and administrative initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
  • 2–5 years of accounting experience; manufacturing or construction industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of job costing, inventory accounting, and payroll compliance.
  • Experience with payroll systems and year-end reporting (W-2, 1099, ACA).
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, squat, kneel, bend, twist, and reach.
  • Office-based role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Regular interaction with production floor personnel and customers.
  • Ability to travel between Waunakee and Arlington offices as needed.
  • Standard business hours with occasional flexibility during peak reporting periods.
  • Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 25 pounds.
Schedule

7:00AM - 4:00PM, Monday - Friday (On-site only)

Compensation

$75,000 - $85,000 with opportunity for bonus potential
