Job Description
The Process Operator supports production activities in the Dry Room and related processing areas, operating equipment, performing in-process testing, and accurately documenting all work in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and standard operating procedures (SOPs). This role involves handling wet and dry materials, milling product into fine powder, loading and unloading freeze dryers, and running basic laboratory tests, while ensuring safety, quality, and compliance at all times.
Responsibilities
+ Operate processing equipment in the Dry Room, including dryers, mills, and freeze dryers, in accordance with SOPs and safety guidelines.
+ Wear and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods (2-3 hours at a time) while working in the Dry Room.
+ Remove wet material from dryers, feed it through the mill to complete drying, and convert product into a finer powder as required.
+ Transfer dry powder into 50-gallon drums, securely close, seal, and accurately label each container.
+ Perform milling operations to break up material into smaller, finer powder to meet process and quality specifications.
+ Load and unload freeze dryers, ensuring correct handling, sequencing, and documentation of materials.
+ Assist in the Panc area as needed, including grinding operations and monitoring computer control panels for process parameters.
+ Conduct in-process testing such as pH measurements and basic column chromatography in accordance with established procedures.
+ Monitor computer panels and process control systems, respond to alarms or deviations, and escalate issues as required.
+ Document all activities clearly and accurately in batch records, logbooks, and other GMP documentation.
+ Follow SOPs and GMP requirements at all times, ensuring that documentation is complete, legible, and compliant.
+ Run finished material tests as needed to verify that product meets defined quality specifications.
+ Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Dry Room, processing areas, and production office, following any cleaning or housekeeping procedures.
+ Collaborate with team members to coordinate workflow, share information, and support production targets.
+ Support document control practices by properly storing, handling, and updating batch records and related documents.
Essential Skills
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ 6 months to 1 year of GMP experience working with SOPs and batch records or similar controlled documentation.
+ Experience following written procedures and SOPs in a regulated or production environment.
+ Comfort working with production equipment such as dryers, mills, and freeze dryers.
+ Ability to wear and work in PPE for 2-3 hours at a time in a production environment.
+ Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and labeling.
Work Environment
This role operates on 2nd shift, Monday through Friday, from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The Process Operator works primarily in a production environment that includes a Dry Room where PPE is required for periods of 2-3 hours at a time, as well as a production office where batch records are stored and an office area where purchasing staff sit. The setting combines hands-on work with processing equipment-such as dryers, mills, and freeze dryers-with desk-based tasks involving documentation, batch records, and computer panels.
The team currently consists of three people with a planned expansion to five, providing a small, collaborative group environment focused on safety, quality, and adherence to GMP standard
