Job Summary

The Panel Bender Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring the panel bending machine to produce precision sheet metal components according to engineering drawings and quality standards. This role ensures efficient machine operation, accurate part production, and adherence to safety and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate the panel bender machine to form sheet metal parts according to specifications, work orders, and blueprints.
  • Adjust machine settings, tooling, and programs as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Inspect finished parts using calipers, gauges, and other measuring tools to verify compliance with tolerances.
  • Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of the machine to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, shop travelers, and job instructions.
  • Record production data, downtime, and quality checks in logs or ERP system.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and other production staff to resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area in accordance with company policies and safety standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to increase productivity and reduce waste.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training in manufacturing or machining preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience operating CNC panel benders, press brakes, or similar sheet metal forming equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
  • Basic computer skills; experience with CNC controls or ERP systems a plus.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods of time.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.

Physical Demands
  • Standing/Walking:
    Required to stand and walk on concrete floors for up to 8–10 hours per shift.
  • Lifting/Carrying:
    Regularly lift and carry sheet metal and parts weighing up to 35 lbs; occasionally lift up to 50 lbs with assistance.
  • Pushing/Pulling:
    Move sheet metal blanks, tooling carts, and finished product racks weighing up to 300 lbs using carts, dollies, or conveyors.
  • Reaching/Handling:
    Frequent reaching at or below shoulder level; occasional overhead reaching when loading/unloading materials.
  • Manual Dexterity:
    Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle sheet metal, adjust machine settings, and operate control panels.
  • Climbing/Balancing:
    Occasionally step onto equipment platforms or ladders less than 3 ft in height.
  • Stooping/Kneeling/Crouching:
    Occasional bending or kneeling when aligning material or performing maintenance tasks.
  • Vision:
    Must have close and distance vision, depth perception, and ability to distinguish colors for part inspection and machine operation.
  • Hearing/Speaking:
    Must be able to hear warning signals, communicate with team members, and follow verbal instructions in a moderately noisy environment.
Work Environment
  • Noise:
    Moderate to high noise levels from fabrication equipment; hearing protection required in designated areas.
  • Temperature:
    Exposure to seasonal temperature fluctuations in the shop environment.
  • Other:
    Exposure to sharp metal edges, oils, lubricants, and airborne metal dust; personal protective equipment (PPE) required at all times.
