The Delivery Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate transportation of metal fabrication products, materials, and supplies to and from customers, vendors, and job sites. This role requires adherence to all traffic and safety regulations, proper handling and securing of loads, and providing excellent customer service while representing the company in a professional manner.
Key Responsibilities- Safely operate company trucks and vehicles to deliver fabricated metal products and raw materials.
- Load and unload deliveries using forklifts, pallet jacks, or manual methods as required.
- Ensure products are properly secured and protected during transport to prevent damage.
- Verify delivery documentation including shipping papers, bills of lading, and customer receipts.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety issues.
- Adhere to all DOT, OSHA, and company safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs and records.
- Assist with material handling, staging, or packaging in the shop when not on delivery runs.
- Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and internal staff to ensure accurate and timely deliveries.
- Represent the company with courtesy, professionalism, and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL may be required depending on vehicle type).
- Clean driving record.
- Experience in delivery driving or material handling preferred, especially in a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks such as loading/unloading materials.
- Forklift certification or willingness to be trained preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of shop safety rules and PPE requirements.
- Equipment Operation – Safe and efficient use of forklifts, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes/hoists.
- Mechanical Aptitude – Able to perform routine vehicle checks and basic troubleshooting.
- Safety Compliance – Knowledge of OSHA and company safety standards for lifting, stacking, and handling.
- Attention to Detail – Ensures correct materials are pulled, delivered, and recorded with accuracy.
- Time Management – Prioritizes and stages materials to keep production flowing without delays.
- Communication – Provides clear updates to supervisors and coworkers about material availability/issues.
- Problem‑Solving – Identifies shortages, damaged materials, or inventory discrepancies and takes corrective action.
- Teamwork – Works closely with production, purchasing, and shipping teams to support operations.
- Adaptability – Adjusts to changing schedules, priorities, or material requirements.
- Reliability – Consistently shows up on time and completes tasks as scheduled.
- Safety Mindset – Always prioritizes safe material movement and equipment operation.
- Work Ethic – Maintains productivity standards and supports the overall flow of the shop.
- Initiative – Takes proactive steps to organize materials, prevent shortages, and maintain workflow.
- Quality Focus – Ensures materials and finished goods are handled without damage.
- Lifting/Carrying:
Regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and products weighing up to 50 lbs.; occasional lifting of heavier loads with mechanical assistance or team lift. - Standing/Walking:
Frequent standing, walking, and climbing in and out of vehicles throughout the shift. - Sitting:
Extended periods of sitting while operating delivery vehicles. - Reaching/Handling:
Frequent reaching, handling, grasping, and maneuvering of products, tools, and materials. - Bending/Stooping/Kneeling:
Regular bending, stooping, and kneeling during loading and unloading of deliveries. - Vision:
Must have close and distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to drive safely and inspect loads. - Hearing:
Ability to hear traffic, signals, alarms, and communicate effectively in person and over the phone or radio.
- Industrial shop setting with exposure to noise, dust, and heavy equipment.
- Requires wearing PPE (steel‑toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, etc.).
- Moderate to heavy physical activity and occasional outdoor work during loading/unloading.
