The RN Clinical Director

The RN Clinical Director is responsible for setting strategies and the future direction of nursing services in partnership with the physician medical director  responsible for nursing care delivered including financial management and oversight, clinical quality, engagement, nursing research, workforce management, and professional practice. Provides leadership and creates a culture that supports the delivery of patient-centered, specialized, evidence-based nursing care across the continuum through an inter-professional approach to treatment, research, education, and advocacy.

Is accountable for the delivery of compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice as defined by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing and Theda Care policy. Is responsible for patient outcomes that meet high quality care standards through collaborative practice with members of the care team.

In this role... You will oversee nursing operations for New London and Waupaca critical access hospitals.

Theda Care Medical Center–New London is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital serving patients in New London and the surrounding communities of Outagamie and Waupaca counties. The hospital provides high-quality, community-based care with access to specialists and resources across the larger network. The hospital also has the Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval and Press Ganey Commitment to Excellence Award.

Theda Care Medical Center–Waupaca is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital located in Waupaca, Wisconsin, serving residents throughout Waupaca County and the surrounding communities. The hospital combines personalized, community-based care with access to advanced specialists and services across the regional network. The hospital has been serving the community since 1954 and has earned national recognition as one of the nation's Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic planning, program development, labor management, and overall operational administration of the department.
  • Effectively directing team members in a manner consistent with Theda Care policies and values. Ensuring the recruitment and retention of competent team members to meet the needs of the business operations of the department.
  • Overseeing and ensuring accuracy of time and attendance and payroll practices.
  • In collaboration with the chief nursing executive, participating in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the nursing strategic plan and other business plans that impact professional nursing practice. Participating with the physician medical director in establishing vision and strategic direction. Supporting and establishing goals that connect the vision back to the hospital and primary care, and effectively translating strategy into a clear vision.
  • Developing an environment that is supportive of shared decision making, shared governance, and an engaged workforce, and demonstrating personal and professional accountability in the development of high functioning teams.
  • Supporting research and innovation to promote the advancement of the nursing profession. Using evidence-based data to influence safety innovations and improve quality outcomes.
  • Maintaining a communication system that interfaces with the medical staff and other leaders and departments to ensure quality patient care. Impacting change through credible influence and negotiation with other senior leaders.
  • Anticipating challenges or barriers, proactively seeking solutions, and acting promptly and decisively to transform ideas into improved outcomes and sustainable results. Leading and managing change at Theda Care, measuring the impact of changes to help quantify the effect of improvement, and developing new tools to assist in performance monitoring.
  • Leading and supporting ongoing activities that promote safe practices, safe environments, and best outcomes. Developing quality improvement processes that include goals and defined performance measurements, monitoring division performance against the appropriate national benchmark, and promoting patient-centered care.
