The Division of Management Services, Bureau of Records Management is recruiting to fill a Health Information Technician 1 position. This position is based out of Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, WI.
Position SummaryThis position provides complex administrative and program support, requiring analytical and independent reasoning skills. The primary areas of responsibility include management of confidential Health Care Records (HCR) for returning Persons in our Care, processing requests for confidential health information from within and outside of the DOC, tracking HCRs pertaining to released offenders, implementing Records Retention/Disposition Authorizations issued by the Public Records Board and scanning, indexing and validating paper HCRs as it relates to ongoing EMR digitization and optimization efforts.
Additional responsibilities include entering and reviewing data in electronic databases, participating in special projects and administrative assignments, responding to verbal and written communications, drafting documents as directed, offering input for the development of new and revision of existing policies and forms, and providing overall administrative support functions.
Salary InformationThis position is in pay schedule and range 06-11 with a starting pay of $20.52/hour
. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
NOTE:
This position is eligible to work remotely up to 3 days per week.
Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:
- Using electronic databases and computer software (e.g., Microsoft excel, Word, Access, etc.)
- Providing customer service and/or administrative support in an office setting (e.g., maintaining files and/or records, drafting correspondence, assembling materials)
- Working with and responding to medical records requests, including compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality laws.
