The Division of Adult Institutions is currently recruiting to fill a Buildings & Grounds Superintendent position. These positions will be headquartered at Waupun Correctional Institution (WCI) in Waupun, WI.

Position Summary

This position plans and directs the maintenance functions of the Institution, supervises the Buildings/Grounds Supervisor, Power Plant Superintendents, maintenance and craft worker staff, HVAC/Refrigeration Specialist-Adv and Office Operations Associate; ensures safety and code compliance; establishes and maintains preventative maintenance programs; performs budget, record keeping and other administrative duties; supervises inmate workers and maintains security in work areas. This position plans and coordinates all construction and remodeling projects for the institution.

Salary

Information

The starting pay is between $40.00/hr. and $46.59/hr., plus excellent benefits. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. The pay schedule/range is 81-03. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Planning and directing a buildings and grounds maintenance program.
  • Planning and supervision of construction and remodeling projects (e.g. coordinating and evaluating construction work, setting work order priorities, ensuring timely completion and proper standards of workmanship are met)
  • Supervision and/or leadership in managing day-to-day operations, including directing subordinate staff (assigning/reviewing work, conducting staff performance evaluations, etc.)

In addition to the above, well-qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Working with architects, engineers, and/or contractors in planning, funding, and completion of construction and remodeling projects.
  • Developing capital building requests and long-term building project plans.
  • Reviewing blueprints, bid specifications, and/or shop drawings for projects, ensuring that organizational goals and needs are met.
