Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide quality nursing care to residents, promoting their rights, dignity, freedom of choice, and individuality.
  • Encourage each resident’s ability to maintain or attain the highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well‑being.
  • Know each resident’s care plan and support them accordingly; contribute to care planning by providing charge nurse/other staff with specific information and observations of residents’ needs and preferences.
  • Attend to residents’ individual needs including grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, and other needs within scope of practice.
  • Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident during service delivery; interact warmly to promote a caring environment.
  • Understand all aspects of residents’ rights, including the right to be free of restraints and to be free from abuse; promptly report incidents or evidence of abuse or rights violations to charge nurse or administrative staff.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment; report deficiencies such as lighting or equipment problems to charge nurse.
  • Protect residents’ personal belongings and promptly report missing items per policy.
  • Observe residents for changes in condition or behavior; report them to authorized licensed nursing personnel promptly.
  • Prevent pressure ulcers, skin tears, and other damage by providing care such as turning immobile residents, applying moisturizers to fragile skin, etc.
  • Answer residents’ call bells promptly and courteously.
  • Perform tasks assigned by the charge nurse including vital signs, weight, applying creams/ointments, collecting specimens, etc.
  • Assist with orienting residents and families upon admission and during transfers.
  • Lift, move, and transport residents using proper body mechanics or lifting devices.
  • Communicate and interact effectively and tactfully with residents, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
  • Assist and escort residents for appointments and activities as directed.
  • Use supplies and linen efficiently and follow charge procedures for resident charge items.
  • Complete Certified Nursing Assistant records documenting care per department policies.
  • Follow safety and infection control procedures including hand washing, gloves, and disposal of soiled materials.
  • Respond to inquiries relating to your area within policy time frames.
Other Duties
  • Assist the immediate supervisor with administrative tasks and special projects.
  • Perform supportive tasks that may be altered according to circumstances.
  • Maintain current Certified Nursing Assistant certifications.
  • Interact with residents, families, visitors, and facility and corporate staff.
  • Provide hands‑on intervention when required.
  • Work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, additional hours, and in different positions as needed.
  • Practice good personal hygiene and follow dress code requirements.
  • Provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test as required.
  • Support a homelike environment.
  • Implement safety procedures including universal precautions, fire and safety, risk management, and security.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident, employee, and operational data.
  • Ensure quality assurance and compliance with regulatory requirements.
