Nurse Clinician

Position Summary

This position functions independently in an expanded clinical role, providing expert direct and indirect nursing care to patients with complex care needs. The role involves working as a member of the multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, consulting with the team within the institution, other DOC institutions, and the community on planning and evaluating care for patients with medical and psychiatric needs.

Additional responsibilities include identifying, developing, and implementing plans to address the learning needs of inmate patients, staff, students, and community agencies related to medical care and re‑entry of offenders. The practitioner also participates in collaborative program planning to meet the health needs of offenders at the institution and in the community for post‑discharge care, and initiates and participates in research and quality improvement activities.

Salary ranges from $99,299 to $116,688 per year, per the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code. A 12‑month probationary period is required.

• 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. M‑F
• 8:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m. M‑F (with either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday off)
• 1:00 p.m.–9:30 p.m. M‑F (straight PM)
• 11:00 a.m.–9:30 p.m. M‑F (with either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday off)
• Weekend/holiday rotation may change based on unit needs.
• Overtime, both voluntary and involuntary, available per the Additional Hours policy.

Special Requirements

• Must possess and maintain an active unrestricted RN license in Wisconsin or another state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience developing and revising patient care plans using continuous assessment.
• Research experience in correctional, psychiatric, medical/surgical, or related nursing fields.
• Coordination of chronic disease management including education, care planning, medication monitoring, and ACP follow‑up.
• Collaboration with supervisors on general unit management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Evaluating nursing staff care and providing appropriate feedback.
• Planning and meeting learning needs for complex chronic disease patients and nursing staff.
