Position Summary:

The Deputy Court Clerk – Window Clerk supports the judicial system by providing a variety of legal and administrative services, as well as direct assistance to the public. Candidates should have strong communication and interpersonal skills, be customer-service oriented, and be able to learn a range of office functions. This position is assigned to the Small Claims division and includes clerking court proceedings before the Court Commissioner.

Experience with Small Claims is beneficial but not required, as training will be provided. Success in this position requires a commitment to maintaining a respectful, collaborative work environment and cultivating effective professional relationships with coworkers, court partners, and the public.

Examples of Work Performed:

The following duties are typical of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned.

Process case management tasks, including case initiation, electronic filing of documents, docketing from court minutes, and case closing activities using the CCAP system.

Communicate effectively with legal professionals, litigants, media, County staff, and the public in person, by phone, and electronically.

Provide front counter and telephone assistance to the public.

Receive and record payments accurately in the automated financial system.

Operate office equipment such as computers, copiers, and scanners.

Identify and implement solutions to improve service to customers.

Participate in professional development aligned with County goals.

Maintain regular and reliable attendance; work additional hours as required.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Two (2) years of office support experience.

A vocational diploma or associate degree in a related field may substitute for required experience.

Prior legal experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

General office and recordkeeping procedures.

Business English, grammar, and spelling.

Accuracy in basic mathematical calculations and recordkeeping.

Proficiency in computer applications; ability to learn new software quickly.

Strong attention to detail.

Ability to work independently within established guidelines.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Strong customer service skills, with the ability to convey information clearly.

Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Team-oriented approach and ability to build effective working relationships.

Commitment to confidentiality and accuracy.

Understanding of County mission, core values, and departmental priorities.

Compensation:

Starting hourly rate of pay: $22.55 + Marathon County benefits
