Training & Certification

This role includes teaching courses in Fire Science, developing curriculum, maintaining course materials, and ensuring alignment with program outcomes and industry standards. The position follows a 40-week academic schedule within a 52-week year and requires active participation in college initiatives, professional development, and community engagement.

Science

Location: This is an in-person position based at NTC’s Merrill Campus
, with occasional classes or events at other campuses or community sites.



Key Responsibilities


Teaching & Student Success

  • Deliver engaging instruction across multiple modalities (in-person, hybrid, online, and experiential).
  • Mentor and guide students toward academic and professional success.
  • Adhere to NTC’s academic calendar, faculty contract, and required student contact hours.
Jobs
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, and attendance while complying with FERPA and institutional policies.
  • Develop and update syllabi, course materials, and assessments (Performance Assessment Tasks – PATs) in the approved College format.
  • Integrate appropriate learning materials, tools, and equipment to support diverse learners.
  • Assess and evaluate student learning outcomes and provide timely feedback.
  • Participate in continuous curriculum development and program improvement initiatives.
Program-Specific Duties

  • Oversee state certification processes for all Fire Science students.
Education
  • Administer and proctor state certification exams in compliance with IFSAC requirements.
  • Prepare and submit state certification summaries for each student.
  • Assist in planning the Fire Science program’s capital budget, researching and sourcing vehicles, equipment, and training structures in collaboration with vendors.
College & Program Support

  • Maintain documentation required by accreditation and program standards.
  • Collaborate with instructional support services to accommodate diverse student needs.
  • Participate in faculty development, in-service events, commencement, and College committee meetings.
  • Assist in onboarding and mentoring new full-time and adjunct faculty.
Chemistry
  • Support student recruitment at College Open Houses and community events.
  • Build partnerships with businesses, fire departments, and K–12 institutions to strengthen community engagement.
Professional Development

  • Maintain compliance with Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and Higher Learning Commission (HLC) faculty standards.
  • Keep professional certifications and credentials current.
  • Stay informed about emerging educational and fire safety trends.
Teaching & Classroom Resources
  • Serve as a liaison with state and industry partners to ensure program relevance and compliance.


Minimum Qualifications

Colleges & Universities
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection, Fire Science, Fire Suppression, or Fire Technology required.
