The Wausau School District is seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Director of Finance to safeguard the District’s fiscal integrity. In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee the financial health of the District, ensuring that resources are maximized to support our educational mission while maintaining strict adherence to state and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Financial Stewardship: Lead the development and management of the annual budget, tax levy certifications, and long-range financial planning.
- Operational Leadership: Direct the day-to-day operations of the Business Office, including payroll,accounts payable/receivable, and grant accounting.
- Risk & Compliance: Manage the District’s insurance portfolio, coordinate annual audits, and ensure compliance with Wisconsin Uniform Financial Accounting Requirements (WUFAR).
- Team Development: Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Business Office staff, fostering a culture of accuracy and service.
- S Oversee purchasing protocols and competitive bidding to ensure fiscal efficiency.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who can translate complex financial data into actionable insights for District administration and the School Board.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required (Master’s preferred).
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of progressive financial experience. Experience in a public school district or government setting is highly preferred. - Licensure: Wisconsin DPI School Business Manager (5008) certification or ability to obtain is required.
- Skills: Expertise in GAAP, financial software, and Excel; strong written and verbal communication skills.
