Role Description

The Chief Operating Financial Officer (COFO) is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Wausau, WI. This role oversees financial operations and supports overall organizational strategy, ensuring resources are aligned with the company’s mission and growth objectives. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing budgeting and forecasting processes, monitoring financial performance, and providing clear financial reports and analysis to senior leadership and the board.

The COFO will supervise accounting activities, ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, and optimize internal controls and financial systems. This position collaborates closely with operational leaders to inform strategic planning, evaluate business initiatives, and support sustainable, mission-focused decision-making.

Qualifications
  • Strong Finance and Accounting skills, including experience overseeing financial operations and compliance.
  • Proficiency in Budgeting and Strategic Planning to support organizational goals and long-term sustainability.
  • Advanced Analytical Skills for interpreting financial data, assessing risk, and supporting evidence-based decisions.
  • Experience in executive or senior financial leadership roles, preferably within social enterprise, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Knowledge of relevant financial regulations, reporting standards, and best practices in internal controls.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; advanced degree or CPA/CMA certification is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, communicate complex financial information clearly, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
