* Position Summary:
** This is specialized technical work associated with a multi-user, automated law enforcement information system in the Sheriff's Office. This includes the Marathon County Jail, Juvenile Center, and 911 Center. Work involves maintenance of computer hardware and software for a complex law enforcement information system and various related integrated systems. While work is performed in accordance with established procedures and policies, considerable independent judgment and action is exercised in applying technical knowledge to maintain day-to-day system operations, perform problem analysis of system failures, provide technical support for users, develop and implement user training, and evaluate and recommend new or replacement equipment and software.
No supervision is exercised over other employees. Work is reviewed by adherence to Sheriff’s Office and automated system procedures, observation, and quality of work. Work also involves regular contact with the City-County Information Technology Commission, system vendor technical staff, and other community law enforcement, fire, emergency service, and government agencies.
** Examples of Work Performed:

* Serves as primary Office contact to resolve problems associated with Marathon County’s law enforcement and other related integrated software information systems; provides critical emergency technical assistance when needed; assists users in troubleshooting hardware and software problems by phone, e-mail, or in person; works with City-County Information Technology Commission to resolve more complex issues; provides on-call support as required
* Implements mapping conversion procedures to update critical E-911 systems on a timely basis; analyzes error reports to ensure accurate street/address changes for law enforcement, fire, and EMS responses.
* Uses Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and other databases to research address problems related to the E-911 system; updates commercial E-911 records; gathers information to correct addresses, obtain new street addresses, etc. from townships, residents, Property Description, etc.
* Reviews data entry done by Sheriff’s Office staff; creates and runs reports for identifying system errors and problems and quantifying workloads.
* Sets up, configures, tests, and troubleshoots Sheriff’s Office hardware and software; sets up and maintains user ’s, files, and access rights for law enforcement and related integrated systems.
* Assists users with creating, transmitting, and legally retaining digital still photography, digital recorded audio, digital audio/visual recordings, and digital images of reports.
* Creates, modifies, tests, and implements new activity codes and facility codes needed for efficient management of the Adult and Juvenile Corrections facilities.
* Assists Office staff and other community law enforcement, fire, and emergency service agencies with file creation and maintenance, query execution, data entry, and other law enforcement system maintenance and monitoring procedures.
* Implements required forms and procedures for State Traffic and Criminal Software (TraCS); monitors transmission of data to State and courts.
* Gathers and analyzes information contained within the law enforcement system to create reports for staff review, management operational decisions, and public records requests.
* Installs various programs on Mobile Data Computers (MDC); sets up wireless connectivity and user/security access codes; provides technical assistance as needed.
