Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is a Registered Nurse responsible for supporting the Director of Nursing in overseeing the clinical operations of the skilled nursing facility. This leadership role ensures high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, staff supervision, and survey readiness. The ADON collaborates with the inter-disciplinary team to maintain clinical excellence and uphold federal, state, and local standards.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership & Oversight
- Assist the DON in planning, organizing, and directing nursing services.
- Ensure nursing care meets resident needs in accordance with physician orders and care plans.
- Monitor clinical documentation for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Conduct regular audits (medication, treatment, infection control, etc.).
- Support quality improvement initiatives and performance improvement plans.
- Maintain compliance with CMS and Wisconsin state regulations.
- Participate in state survey preparation and response.
- Ensure adherence to facility policies and procedures.
- Monitor infection prevention practices and reporting.
- Assist with incident investigations and corrective action plans.
- Supervise nursing staff including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs.
- Assist with scheduling to ensure appropriate staffing coverage.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of nursing staff.
- Address attendance, performance, and conduct concerns in collaboration with HR.
- Monitor clinical outcomes (falls, wounds, hospital readmissions, weight loss, etc.).
- Participate in QAPI meetings and initiatives.
- Assist within infection control tracking and prevention measures.
- Ensure timely completion of assessments and documentation.
- Participate in care plan meetings.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, families, and external providers.
- Support collaboration between nursing, therapy, dietary, and social services.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Wisconsin – Required
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience in long-term care or skilled nursing.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of CMS regulations and long-term care standards.
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience with electronic medical records (PCC preferred).
