Schedule
Full time – 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Typical shift: 8:00a.m. – 4:30p.m.
Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe licensed practical nurse performs basic nursing activities in the care of patients so they may achieve or regain, and then maintain, the maximum possible physical, emotional and social function. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Implement patient care in an assigned patient load, under the direction of the registered nurse.
- Observe, document, and monitor each patient’s psychiatric and physical changes and responses to treatment.
- Collect admission data, transcribe discharge information, and reconcile medications on admission and discharge.
- Administer medications and tube feedings, ensuring right patient, right medication, right dose, right time, and correct route.
- Identify and intervene in potential patient care problems, abrupt changes, or impending instability, using appropriate de‑escalation techniques, and re‑evaluate safety level.
- Identify alcohol withdrawal syndrome and significant cardiac or respiratory symptoms requiring immediate medical intervention.
- Implement care plans and hospital policies, incorporating patient age‑specific and cultural needs.
- Participate in nursing assessment, create treatment plans, and maintain integrity of tube feeding dosages.
- Conduct patient education about medications, obtain consent, and document responses.
- Maintain knowledge of current medications and new pharmacologic products.
- Manage patient hygienic and environmental needs, monitor location of all patients, and assist with meals and food intake.
- Aggressively support patient advocacy, explain patient rights, obtain necessary consents, and assist with grievance resolution.
- Adhere to safety and infection control standards, participate in continuing education, and engage in projects to improve professional skills and unit processes.
- Maintain punctuality, preparedness, effective communication, and a professional attitude toward all individuals.
- Comply with hospital policies and procedures, including human resources, infection control, and employee health programs.
Required:
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensed by the Wisconsin State Board of Nursing or the state of the Rogers clinical facility, with the license in good standing.
- American Heart Association CPR certification or American Red Cross Professional Rescue certification within 30 days of hire (annual recertification required).
- Formal training in management of aggressive patients within 60 days of hire (annual recertification required).
Preferred:
Prior psychiatric experience with children, adolescents, and adults.
