Role Description

The Medical‑Surgical Registered Nurse provides direct, evidence‑based nursing care to adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions. This on‑site role, located in Wausau, WI, involves assessing patient status, developing and implementing individualized care plans, administering medications and treatments, and monitoring patient responses, including interpretation of basic telemetry data as appropriate. The nurse collaborates closely with physicians, advanced practice clinicians, therapists, and other care team members to coordinate safe, timely, and compassionate care.

Daily responsibilities include patient education, documentation in the electronic health record, participation in interdisciplinary rounds, and support of quality and safety initiatives. The role also involves mentoring and supporting peers, contributing to a positive unit culture, and engaging in ongoing professional development.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated clinical competence in Nursing and Medicine, with experience in an acute care or medical‑surgical setting.
  • Strong Patient Care skills, including assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation for diverse adult populations.
  • Ability to apply Critical Thinking to prioritize care, respond to changes in patient condition, and make sound clinical judgments.
  • Telemetry skills, including basic rhythm recognition and appropriate escalation of concerns to the care team.
  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Wisconsin (or eligibility to obtain prior to start date).
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred or willingness to obtain within a defined timeframe.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required;
    Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred or obtained within a specified period after hire.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, patient‑centered environment.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to support 24/7 patient care.
