Overview
GI Associates is seeking a Supplemental Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to join our anesthesia team. In this role, you will provide safe, high-quality anesthesia care for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures in collaboration with gastroenterologists, nurses, and the clinical team to deliver an excellent patient experience.
This supplemental position primarily supports the Wausau location with opportunities to support the Stevens Point location based on scheduling needs and candidate availability.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities- Provides all aspects of the sedation continuum (local, IVCS, MAC) as appropriate to provide each patient an optimal procedural experience.
- Evaluates the patient pre-operatively by interviewing and examining the patient. Assesses data, selects appropriate anesthetic, and administers anesthetics in accordance with clinical privileges delineated.
- Monitors, interprets, and evaluates information derived from patient assessment and monitors intra-operatively; protects patients life functions and vital organs. Communicates with physician regarding planned anesthesia and changes in patient status.
- Works daily as part of the procedural care team, adapting to each patient s sedation needs.
- Prepares drugs and performs IV insertion, intubation, hemodynamic balance, and airway management in routine and acute medical situations.
- Monitors the patient s post-operative care and performs evaluation of the patient.
- Maintains detailed records of all medication administered, noting any unintended response.
- Ensures all needed supplies are available for anesthesia care.
- Maintains accounting of controlled substances.
- Participates in professional peer review processes.
- Evaluates anesthesia medications, equipment, and patient care supplies for sedation use in the Endoscopy Center.
- Communicates directly with the Provider Team to ensure appropriateness of recommended sedation care.
- Serves as Anesthesia Professional Liaison.
- Works closely with the GIE Center Director and Medical Director to assure proper training for the GIE care team about sedation needs of GIE patients.
- Assists with development of anesthesia protocols, policy development, and training as needed.
- Attends nursing team meetings as needed.
- Responsible for compliance with all state, federal, and regulatory requirements and/or guidelines, including but not limited to AAAHC Standards, Medicare and State-specific regulations, OSHA, HIPAA, Federal Fraud and Abuse Laws.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Education
- Graduation from an accredited RN and Nurse Anesthesia program required.
- Licensure/Certification
- Certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) required.
- Current RN and APNP Licensure with the State of Wisconsin required.
- BLS and ACLS Certification required.
- Experience
- Minimum two years of experience as a CRNA required.
- Knowledge
- Knowledge of anesthesia equipment and medical technology.
- Knowledge of location, care, operation, and safety hazards of medical equipment, instruments and procedures to administer effective, safe patient care.
- Knowledge of regulatory and licensing requirements, including documentation standards, coding, billing and appropriate use of medical terminology and abbreviations.
- Skills
- Interpersonal, communication, and listening skills necessary to interact effectively and courteously with patients, physicians, and all staff members.
- Maintain the Endoscopy Center protocols while delivering compassionate patient care.
- Proficient computer skills in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Demonstrates professionalism and respect in all forms of communication.
- Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision making to achieve organizational objectives.
