Location: Town of Wausau

Position Summary

New Employee Retention Bonus $2,500.00 available for new employees with less than six months with Rogers.

Schedule:

Part time – 20 hours per week, Monday–Friday. No holidays/on‑call required.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Complete initial assessments and documentation as required.
  • Collect, record, and analyze patient data for admission assessment according to hospital policy, including strengths, limitations, cultural factors, discharge needs, medical status, medication history, and age‑specific needs.
  • Involve patient’s support systems in assessment and documentation and observe patient interactions with family and friends.
  • Act as patient advocate, explain rights, obtain consents and protect privacy and confidentiality.
  • Assist in patient orientation and provide information on unit safety procedures.
  • Initiate and update treatment plans, participate in planning and modifying care, evaluate data and review multidisciplinary assessments.
  • Develop and interpret care plans with patient and family, write clear treatment goals and review progress.
  • Identify and document nursing interview, observation, physical assessment and diagnostic data and confer with other health professionals.
  • Review lab data, follow up with doctor, assess fall risk, suicidality, self‑abuse and other safety concerns, and implement interventions.
  • Accurately administer medications, document medication administration, monitor adverse reactions, and educate patients.
  • Use de‑escalation techniques and reassess safety level.
  • Identify withdrawal syndromes, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, cardiac or respiratory symptoms requiring immediate intervention.
  • Provide health education needs, implement age‑appropriate teaching interventions.
  • Organize patient care activities according to priorities, preferences, unit needs and time constraints.
  • Ensure admissions, transfers and related activities meet EMTALA and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to nursing standards of practice and infection control, and participate in continuing education and in‑service programs.
  • Engage in performance improvement, unit standard development, and suggest solutions to unit issues.
  • Serve on unit committees or projects, sometimes as project leader, and contribute to nursing and hospital functions.
  • Assume charge nurse role: coordinate unit activities, facilitate admission process, communicate unit status, manage therapeutic milieu, plan assignments, and maintain orderly environment.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to LPN/psychiatric technician, build a primary caseload, and direct patient care.
  • Participate in professional development, set goals, discuss progress with manager, and take initiative to improve skills.
Education & Training Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Registered nurse licensed by the State Board of Nursing in the state of employment, in good standing.
  • American Health Association/Healthcare Provider CPR certification within 30 days of hire, with bi‑annual recertification.
  • Formal training in management of the aggressive patient within 60 days of hire, with annual recertification.
  • Previous psychiatric experience with children, adolescents and adults preferred.
  • May be required to obtain a Qualified Medical Professional (QMP) designation; considered competent and renewed annually.
  • Licensed under HFS §40 in Child/Adolescent Day Treatment or have one year experience with children with mental health disorders.
