Position Summary:
This is skilled work in the construction and maintenance of park facilities. Work involves the application of skills in the performance of a variety of tasks involving plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, masonry, etc. There is some lead responsibility for directing the work of others.
NORMAL HOURS OF WORK: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., the months of June through September, staff may have the option of working 4–10-hour days.
Some second and third shift work may be scheduled in winter to assist with snow making and/or snow removal activities
Examples of Work Performed:
Performs skilled maintenance, repair, renovation, and construction work on park buildings, shelters, restrooms, playgrounds, athletic facilities, trails, utilities, and other park infrastructure.
Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs complex facility and infrastructure issues involving mechanical, structural, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, HVAC, painting, roofing, welding, or other related areas and building systems.
Responds to urgent maintenance needs, including storm damage, water leaks, electrical issues, roof leaks, vandalism, broken equipment, unsafe structures, and other conditions affecting public safety or park operations.
Performs skilled inspections and repairs to keep public facilities safe, functional, attractive, and compliant with applicable safety, accessibility, and department standards.
Provides technical guidance, training, and work direction to lower-level maintenance staff, seasonal employees, volunteers, or assigned crews.
Monitors and tracks available inventory and notifies appropriate individual(s) when stock reaches specified levels.
Maintains accurate records of inspections, repairs, materials used, equipment maintenance, safety concerns, and completed work orders.
Interacts with the public and persons contracted to use the park regularly in providing services and assistance and enforcing park rules.
Operates motorized construction and maintenance equipment to maintain parks and construct park buildings, including tractors, trucks, and similar equipment.
Develops solutions to work issues that add value for our customers.
Participates in establishing professional development goals that are supportive of broader County goals.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance; works extra hours as required.
Leads seasonal employees engaged in related work.
Performs related work as required.
Qualifications:
High school graduation or equivalent, preferably including courses in one of the construction trades, and two years responsible paid work experience in the construction trades involving plumbing, carpentry, electrical, or masonry skills.
NECESSARY SPECIAL
QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a valid Wisconsin Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without air brake restrictions; OR pass the required Class A CDL without restrictions on air brakes within one (1) year of hire. Probationary employees failing to meet the CDL requirements may be terminated. Also required is a driving record that meets County standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of the tools, methods, and materials used for repairing and installing systems related to plumbing, skilled carpentry, and HVAC.Skill in the use and care of hand and power tools.
Skill in safely operating over-the-road and off-road motorized construction and maintenance equipment.
Skill in reading and interpreting plans.
Ability to effectively communicate with park users.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Knowledge of the applicable safety practices and procedures of the construction trades.
Ability to keep accurate records related to time and materials.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to lead and guide the work of other employees.
Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
Compensation:
Starting hourly rate of pay: $25.81 + Marathon County benefits
