Location: Town of Wausau
The Quality Control Technician is responsible for performing thorough post-repair inspections on commercial trucks to ensure all maintenance and repair work completed by diesel technicians meets safety, performance, and quality standards. This role is critical to delivering a high level of service and ensuring customer satisfaction prior to vehicle release.
Essential Functions- Conduct comprehensive visual and operational inspections of trucks after repair or maintenance is completed.
- Verify that all repair items listed on the work order have been completed accurately and to standard.
- Test functionality of key systems (e.g., brakes, lights, steering, engine performance, electronics) based on manufacturer guidelines and internal checklists.
- Document findings and work with technicians or supervisors to correct any identified issues before delivery to the customer.
- Operate trucks on company property and public roads (as necessary) to verify operational safety.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and quality control reports.
- Collaborate with the service team to provide feedback, improve repair quality, and prevent recurring issues.
- Ensure cleanliness and professional presentation of completed vehicles.
- Follow all safety rules, company policies, PPE requirements, and standard operating procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.
- Occasionally exposed to electrical risk, wet or humid conditions, and outdoor weather.
- Noise level is typically loud in the shop environment.
- Ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, and climb in and out of trucks frequently.
- Ability to lift/push/pull up to 25 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally.
- Use of vision, including close and distance, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, compute ratios and percentages).
- Ability to interpret repair documents, diagnostic data, and manufacturer specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Graduation from an accredited diesel technician program or equivalent experience (3+ years’ experience as diesel technician)
- Possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Strong knowledge of diesel truck systems, repair practices, and industry standards.
- Familiarity with repair orders, inspection checklists, and shop documentation processes.
- Basic computer skills to complete inspection forms and look up repair history.
