Pastor / Ministry / Church, Pastoral Support/ Care & Wellbeing
River City Church launched in Wausau, Wisconsin in 2022. In just over four years we have grown to 400 people, moved into a debt-free building, and developed a culture built on authenticity, vulnerability, and genuine Gospel community.
We are a Jesus-centered family on mission. That is not a tagline. It is the actual culture we are trying to build. House Churches are our primary discipleship structure. Prayer is a core value we are actively cultivating. And we believe that worship is not a twenty minute segment on Sunday morning. It is a whole life response to a God who moved first.
We are growing fast and we are building as we grow. This is not a role for someone looking for something established. It is a role for someone who wants to help build something.
The RoleWe are looking for an Associate Pastor of Worship and Discipleship.
That title means something specific to us. It means a pastor who leads worship, not a worship leader who occasionally pastors. It means someone whose primary identity is making disciples, and whose worship leadership flows out of that.
This person will serve as a full member of the pastoral team at River City. Not running a worship ministry. Helping shepherd the church, build a culture of prayer and presence, and walk alongside people in the real rhythms of life.
What You Will OwnWorship and Prayer
- Shepherd the worship team spiritually and develop them as leaders, not just musicians
- Build a genuine prayer culture at River City, not a program but a culture that runs through everything
- Lead Sunday gatherings with a posture of presence over performance
- Develop worship leaders who can carry the culture when you are not in the room
Discipleship and Pastoral Presence
- Walk alongside people in the life of the church as a shepherd and disciple-maker
- Help build a culture where people move from attending to belonging to multiplying
- Contribute to the pastoral life of River City alongside the Lead Pastor and elders
Team and Culture
- Serve as a full member of the pastoral team, contributing to staff health and shared mission
- Help carry the DNA and values of River City across everything we do
- Develop leaders and build a culture of ownership church-wide
Teaching
- Opportunity to preach in the Sunday morning rotation based on gifting and calling
- Teach in other environments including staff gatherings, House Churches, and leadership contexts
You are a pastor first. Your worship gifting is real but it is not the center of your identity. You lead people into the presence of God because you live there yourself.
You believe discipleship happens in the ordinary rhythms of life, not just in programs. You are not content to run a worship service. You want to help build a culture where people actually follow Jesus together.
You are humble enough to enter a culture you did not build and learn before you lead. You are secure enough that you do not need the spotlight to feel valued. You are emotionally mature, relationally steady, and genuinely committed to the long game.
You are not looking for a comfortable next step. You are looking for a place to plant roots and build something that matters.
What We Offer- A debt-free building with no financial burden on the church
- A Lead Pastor who will give you clarity, trust, and an open door
- A city that genuinely needs the Gospel and a church that is serious about bringing it
- A culture of authenticity and vulnerability where you can lead as yourself
- A long-term vision that includes church planting, city-wide impact, and a discipleship movement
We look forward to getting to know you.
