Summary:

Perform a variety of routine and complex transportation work in driving and coordinating transportation plans and operating a tractor-trailer vehicle in support of the Logistics Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.

Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.

Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.

Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.

Complete documentation of return material authorizations, daily log sheets, weekly trip reports, fuel receipts, toll receipts and any other related freight receipts and submit as required (daily/weekly).

Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles and conduct post-trip inspections.

Secure cargo for transport, using tie-down straps rubber straps, tarps, ratchets, winches and winch bar.

Drive trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes to document weights and to comply with state regulations.

Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods.

Inventory and inspect goods by item description and appearance, to be moved to determine quantities and conditions.

Follow all safety rules and DOT regulations.

Basic Qualifications:

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Speak effectively and professionally to customers or employees of organization.

Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.

Education, Experience and

Certifications:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A, a clear driving record per Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and one (1) year experience with open top or flatbed hauling.

Physical Demands:

Frequent walking, climbing, use of hands and fingers, speak/talk and hear.

Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 65 pounds and assisting up to 100 pounds.

Sufficient medical and vision distance and peripheral vision and as required by DOT.

Frequent pushing/pulling straps and straighten or pull trailer tarp.

Climb and descend steps or ladders several times per shift.

Frequent outdoor exposure and occasional inclement weather.

This safety-sensitive position requires employees to comply with all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and required drug and alcohol testing procedures.
