Long-term Substitute Academic Intervention Teacher

The Wauwatosa School District seeks a Long-term Substitute for an Academic Intervention Teacher at Wilson Elementary and Longfellow Middle Schools. Wilson serves approximately 251 students and Longfellow serves approximately 819 students. This position will work with SK‑8th grade students in Reading and Math Intervention. The day starts at Longfellow for 8th grade math intervention and will transition to Wilson for the remainder of the day occurring daily.

Summary

The Long-term Substitute Academic Intervention Teacher fills in for the regular Academic Intervention Teacher, continuing the educational program for students.

September 14, 2026 – December 4, 2026

Pay Rate

$190 per day

Once a hiring administrator recommends a candidate for hire, the candidate will be connected with Edustaff to complete their onboarding process. This process includes various supports and resources tailored for substitute employees to efficiently and effectively meet the shared needs.

Required Qualifications
  • Relevant certification through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (Teaching or Substitute certification)
  • Strong content knowledge, with the ability to teach elementary students
  • Ability to differentiate instruction in mixed‑ability classrooms
  • Experience working with children (preferred)
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately in both oral and written form
  • Ability to work independently
Essential Job Functions
  • Follows the lesson plan left by the teacher for whom he/she is substituting
  • Maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning
  • Maintains a safe environment, taking necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, colleagues, visitors, materials, equipment, and facilities
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding students and staff
  • Supervises students inside and outside the classroom
  • Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, and recess periods
  • Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to multicultural and multilingual values and environments
  • Holds expectations for high performance of self and students
  • Performs various clerical functions (e.g., taking attendance)
  • Demonstrates computer literacy and operates software programs as related to job responsibilities
  • Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
  • Complies with the requirement to remain free of any alcohol or non‑prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned
