Early Childhood Lead Teacher – Tosa Tots

Wauwatosa School District – Recreation Department – Wilson Elementary School (Fall )

Position Summary:

The Early Childhood Lead Teacher works in partnership with the Special Education Teacher to deliver quality instruction to Tosa Tots participants.

Hours:

8:00 am – 12:30 pm, part‑time (0.5)

Starting Pay: $18.00 per hour – depending on experience

Essential Job Functions
  • Collaborate with the special education teacher in planning daily lessons
  • Support an inclusive educational environment for all students
  • Establish and maintain effective routines and procedures
  • Communicate clearly and check for understanding
  • Create and maintain a safe physical setting
  • Build positive and professional relationships with parents/guardians through frequent communication concerning students’ progress
  • Work collaboratively with administrators, other school personnel, and the community to promote continuous improvement
  • Remain free of alcohol or non‑prescribed controlled substances in the workplace
  • Serve as a role model for students in civic and responsible conduct
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) or teacher certification through the Department of Public Instruction (preferred)
  • Minimum one‑year experience as a preschool teacher (preferred)
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of adults and children
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • High level of maturity
  • Strong degree of self‑direction and motivation
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy in dealing with others
  • Ability to maintain records and reports in an organized manner
  • Knowledge of effective teaching practices
  • Ability to design lessons that meet the educational needs of all students
  • Understanding of the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of the target age group
Essential Physical/Mental Requirements
  • Ability to sit or stand for up to four hours per day
  • Ability to perform light physical work, frequently lifting up to thirty pounds without assistance in an indoor setting
  • Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide information and assistance
  • Dexterity and hand/eye coordination necessary to operate a computer keyboard and office equipment such as fax machine, copier, etc.
  • Hearing ability adequate to participate in numerous conversations throughout the day, both in person and over the telephone

    Ability to complete job activities in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm
  • Ability to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and accuracy
