Job SummaryThe Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for supporting motorcycle development programs from initial concept to delivery for handlebar systems/components. This person will be part of a technical team of engineers and designers and works directly with other departments including Manufacturing, Service, Styling, Purchasing, etc. They will be very hands-on with team members, other Systems, Vehicle, and Product Line Engineering teams to ensure that projects meet time, quality, cost and weight requirements.
Job Responsibilities- Define strategy and roadmaps for future architecture, features, and functions with internal stakeholders to exceed rider expectations.
- Partner with cross functional stakeholders to lead the development of short term and long-term handlebar system strategies. This includes benchmarking, requirements development, technology road maps, differentiation strategies across models within performance/finishes/etc., and supply partnerships.
- Own system level technical correctness and guide/ mentor others through the delivery of handlebar systems for the Life Cycle Plan through delivery of robust design practices.
- Drive diligence in systemically preventing recurrence of issues through knowledge capture and best practice definition.
- Deliver Motorcycle and Accessory LCP projects from concept to production.
- Create and propose optimized design alternatives using set-based design approach including DFA, DFM, reducing weight, etc.
- Deliver robust Design Failure Modes & Effects Analysis/Design Verification Plan & Report(FMEA/ DVP&R) through end-to-end ownership of the design and delivery process
- Ensure regulatory compliance through collaboration with the Motorcycle Regulatory Compliance Team
- Identify and champion closure of technical risk/issues throughout project lifecycle
- Leverage Engineering tools and processes to ensure integration across all programs (Virtual Assemblies, mock-ups, etc.)
Bachelor's Degree Required
Education Specifications- Bachelors of Science (BS) degree is required in either:
Electrical, Mechanical, or Electro-mechanical. - Masters of Science degree (MS) in a technical field preferred.
- Typically requires 5+ years of hands‑on engineering experience working directly in product development.
- Well‑rounded engineering background in multiple areas of product development, project management, and continuous improvement.
- Background in being the “subject matter expert” on technical design reviews (DFMEA and DVP&R).
- Experience with welding, forgings, castings, swaging, hydro forming, chrome plating, and coatings.
- Experience with bolted joint calculations, applications, testing and development.
- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing and datum structure development.
- Knowledge and delivery using the H‑D Product Development methodology (PDP)
- Working knowledge of CAD tools (Pro‑E or Creo) to ensure design accuracy.
- Proven success in solving challenging technical problems with innovative solutions in a team environment.
- Ability to work with diverse global teams both internally and externally (suppliers).
- Concise communication skills, detail‑oriented mindset, and is a strong team player.
