Lakeside is seeking a motivated and experienced Design Engineer to join our collaborative transportation engineering team in Southeast Wisconsin. As a valued contributor to our agile, multi-discipline consulting firm, you will play an active role in the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects for state, county, and local government clients.
This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of roadway, traffic, municipal, and transportation improvement projects while expanding your technical expertise and project management skills. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, senior engineers, and technical staff while taking increasing responsibility for project delivery and client service.

Core Responsibilities- Prepare roadway, traffic, and transportation-related plans, specifications, estimates (PS&E), and construction documents.
- Perform engineering design and analysis using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station, and related engineering software.
- Develop design calculations, technical memoranda, reports, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate project tasks with internal team members, subconsultants, and clients.
- Assist with project scoping, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control efforts.
- Interpret and apply applicable design standards, policies, and procedures, including WisDOT requirements and the Facilities Development Manual (FDM).
- Conduct field reviews, site investigations, and data collection as necessary to support project development.
- Review plans, reports, and technical documents prepared by others for accuracy and completeness.
- Support public involvement activities, stakeholder coordination, and client meetings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support project and company needs.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in civil or transportation engineering design.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Micro Station.
- Familiarity with WisDOT policies, procedures, standards, and the Facilities Development Manual.
- Understanding of transportation design principles, engineering calculations, and plan production processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients and team members.
- Ability to prepare, interpret, and utilize plans, specifications, special provisions, reports, and technical documents.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to occasionally work outside normal business hours to support project needs.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, including periodic field work in varying weather conditions.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe preferred.
- Experience working on WisDOT transportation improvement projects.
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline.
