What You Will Do in This Role?
  • Lead cost-reduction initiatives across released medical device products (BOM optimization, material substitutions, design simplification, supplier changes)
  • Identify cost drivers through BOM analysis, supplier spend, labor studies, and field/service data
  • Own engineering changes (ECRs/ECOs) in Solid Works, ensuring compliance with ISO, IEC, FDA, and QMS requirements
  • Partner with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Quality on alternate sourcing, materials, tooling, and process improvements
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to evaluate feasibility and risk of cost-down changes
  • Conduct structured trade studies balancing cost, quality, manufacturability, and risk
  • Support DFM, DFA, and DFC improvements on legacy and released products
  • Apply DFMEA, PFMEA, and RCA to drive sustainable improvements
  • Analyze warranty and service data to uncover recurring cost opportunities
  • Coordinate validation and phased implementation to minimize production and field disruption
  • Track savings, implementation progress, and risks; communicate results to leadership
What You Will Need for This Role?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline; advanced degree preferred
  • 8+ years of engineering experience supporting manufactured products; medical device or regulated industry experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience leading cost-reduction, value engineering, or design-to-cost initiatives on released products
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (Solid Works preferred), PDM systems, BOM management, and tools such as Jira
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes (injection molding, machining, sheet metal, welding, assembly, etc.)
  • Experience with supplier-facing engineering changes, alternate sourcing, and material/process substitutions
  • Working knowledge of ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC standards, and FDA design controls
  • Ability to perform technical risk assessments and root cause analysis
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen with the ability to quantify savings and trade-offs
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder influence skills
