Carpenter, Trades ​/ Skilled Labor

Position Summary:

Carpenter performs all aspects of operations related to the carpentry trade including, but not limited to, rough and finish carpentry, roofing repairs, suspended ceiling installation, minor masonry work, movable wall repair, drywall repair, bleacher repairs, various door installation and repair, key and lock work, various floor coverings, customer service, and operation of equipment in a safe manor.

• Performs rough and finish carpentry including building additions and remodeling cabinets, tables, chairs, therapeutic appliances and special projects.
• Performs minor masonry repairs such as brick and cement block replacement as well as minor tuck pointing.
• Installs, repairs and patches minor roofing applications including shingles rolled roofing and rubber roofing.
• Installs, repairs various types of floors and floor coverings including wood, VCT, ceramic and carpeting.
• Installs and repairs various types of ceilings including suspended, acoustic tile, plaster, drywall including taping and finish.
• Repairs, replaces and installs doors, door jambs, metal frames, weather stripping lite panels, platforms, podiums, ramps, partitions, furniture, railings, hand rails, stairs, stair treads, nosings and gratings.
• Builds, installs and repairs cabinetry including counter tops, panels, formica and plastic laminates as well as hardware
• Do all phases of door lock and hardware repair/replacement including repining and key cutting and inventory.
• Perform small concrete projects such as small approaches and footings.
• Insures that work areas are properly maintained.
• Installs and sets up Smartboards and projectors; install, repair and recover chalkboards, whiteboards and bulletin boards; install, replace paper towel racks, dispensers, pictures, banners, curtains and shades.

• Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position and actively supports the RUSD Strategic Plan.

Receives direction from the Carpenter Foreperson. The Carpenter normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work and receives general instructions on new assignments.

The Carpenter does not supervise other staff but works closely with district staff and staff within the Office of Operations.

• Busy work environment with multiple priorities and frequent interruptions. Work includes a commitment to irregular working hours, when needed.
• Position requires the availability for flexible shifts and additional hours as necessary and ability to be on call 24-hours a day, seven days a week when needed for district emergencies.
• Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read a variety of documents; sitting for extended periods of time; walking; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment; intermittent bending, stooping or reaching overhead to retrieve or store materials; driving a vehicle to conduct business activities.
• Primarily an indoor work environment, but frequent travel between district sites is required with occasional out of town travel, with potential exposure to hazardous materials and construction equipment.
• Job duties may require working outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to work with a respirator if needed.
• Employee may be assigned a district provided cell phone in the execution of their job duties.
