Senior Tax Accountant

Heartline Staffing is recruiting a Senior Tax Accountant for a full-time, hybrid opportunity in Waverly, Iowa. This is an opportunity for an experienced public accounting professional seeking sophisticated tax work, long-term career growth, and a potential path to firm ownership. The Senior Tax Accountant will provide tax planning and preparation for a diverse client base, including corporations, partnerships, and individuals. You'll work across complex federal and state tax matters, advise clients, research technical tax issues, and provide guidance and technical review to junior accounting staff as needed.

This role is designed for an experienced tax professional with at least 5 years of progressive public accounting experience who can operate as both a technical resource and trusted client advisor. You'll prepare and review complex returns, help clients navigate changing tax requirements, and provide proactive financial and tax guidance based on their individual and business needs.

Compensation: $80,000-$100,000 depending on experience. Opportunity for firm ownership for high-performing senior professionals.

Schedule:

Full-time. Hybrid. Minimum 3 days per week in the Waverly office.

Role:

• Lead the preparation and review of complex federal and state tax returns
• Prepare and review individual, C-corporation, S-corporation, and partnership returns
• Ensure filings comply with current IRS and Iowa state tax laws
• Stay current on changing tax legislation and provide proactive client guidance
• Serve as a trusted advisor and develop financial solutions based on clients' personal and professional circumstances
• Conduct in-depth research on complex tax issues
• Support client strategies and help resolve IRS or state-level inquiries
• Provide guidance and technical review to junior accounting staff as needed
• Support client retention and the development of new financial solutions

Requirements:

• 5+ years of progressive public accounting experience required
• Experience with corporate, partnership, and individual taxation required
• Experience with standard tax preparation and accounting software such as Ultra Tax, CCH, or similar required
• Ability to work in the Waverly office at least 3 days per week required
• Must reside locally or be willing to commute to Waverly, IA required
• Preferred: CPA or enrolled agent (EA)
• Preferred: desire to pursue firm ownership opportunities
• Preferred: familiarity with the financial needs of businesses and individuals along the US 20 corridor
