DEFINITIONUnder general supervision, performs various semi-skilled maintenance and unskilled labor work related to City of Waxahachie city parks/cemetery/sports complex or other related areas. Performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. Performs other duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis is the entry through journey level class in the Maintenance Worker series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Maintenance Worker II and Senior Maintenance Worker classifications by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, with no supervisory responsibility. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction, assistance or supervision as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
The duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the work is related or a logical assignment to this class.
- Participate in the repair and maintenance of city parks, cemetery, and sports complex including operating various equipment in the completion of assigned tasks.
- Perform various tasks related to the maintenance and repair of city parks including mowing, weed eating, planting trees and other plants; repairing irrigation systems; picking up trash and cleaning bathrooms.
- Maintains ball fields by mowing, tilling, leveling and striping.
- Performs duties during special events to ensure area is clean and supplied for participants.
- Operate various light equipment including mowers, edgers, tillers, pickup trucks, chainsaws, and other equipment as needed.
- Maintain and make minor repairs to assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment; report major repair needs.
- Show cemetery plots to potential customers, locate, and mark graves.
- Assist other departments during special events with set-up, cleaning, and traffic control.
- Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.

Education, Training and Experience
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- One year of general maintenance experience.
- A valid State driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by the City of Waxahachie is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
