Description:
The Registered Nurse is a licensed professional who coordinates patient care delivery by the healthcare team.
Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient and identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems.
The RN develops and implements an individualized plan of care and evaluates the patient's response.
They promote safe passage for patients by using knowledge of patient needs to assist them through the healthcare encounter without complications.
The RN delegates interventions to healthcare personnel based on each patient's condition and the competencies of the employee.
This position is utilized for RNs in hospital inpatient and outpatient departments with 24X7 staffing, including those with on-call staffing on off shifts.
Examples of procedural areas include GI Lab, Pain Management, Dialysis, Infusion Centers, and IV Services.
Essential Functions of the Role:
Using clinical judgment, the RN conducts accurate clinical assessments according to practice standards.
They identify and prioritize patient and family needs and develop, implement, and evaluate the nursing plan of care.
The RN modifies the plan to meet clinical outcomes and systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
They support evidence-based practice changes and participate in quality/performance improvement initiatives.
The RN creates a compassionate, supportive, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
They develop therapeutic relationships while managing both emotional and physical pain to promote comfort and healing.
Recognizing and incorporating unique differences of patients and families is essential for individualized care.
The RN preserves and protects the confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights of patients.
They create individualized plans that reflect patient and family values and goals.
Facilitating learning for patients, families, and nursing staff is an essential aspect of this role.
The RN works collaboratively with colleagues to develop and implement integrated plans of care, ensuring timely follow-up.
They utilize strategies and resources for problem-solving in patient care.
Improving nursing practice and the work environment through participation in shared governance is a key responsibility.
The RN commits to ongoing professional growth through education, networking, and involvement in professional organizations.
Key Success Factors:
