Job Description:Performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of residential and commercial plumbing systems and associated building systems to support safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations. Supports regulatory compliance through backflow prevention testing, certification, program administration, and effective use of work management systems.
JOB DUTIESPerforms installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of residential and commercial plumbing systems including domestic water systems, sanitary sewer systems, storm drainage systems, piping systems, fixtures, valves, pumps, and related plumbing equipment.
Performs preventive and predictive maintenance activities on plumbing systems and equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, maintenance plans, and departmental standards.
Performs testing, inspection, certification, maintenance, and repair of backflow prevention devices and supports the administration of the University's backflow prevention program, including regulatory reporting and compliance activities.
Troubleshoots and supports plumbing-related controls, pumps, sensors, monitoring systems, and associated building systems to maintain safe and reliable operation.
Documents work performed, labor, materials, asset information, inspection records, and testing and certification activities within the work management/CMMS system; assists with identifying recurring issues, supporting regulatory compliance, recommending corrective actions, and planning or identifying material requirements for assigned work activities.
Provides customer service and emergency response support, complies with applicable safety procedures and regulatory requirements, and participates in an on‑call rotation as assigned.
- Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality to support safe, reliable, and customer‑focused facility operations.
- Supports departmental initiatives related to facility asset management, continuous improvement, and service quality.
- Assists in training and providing guidance to lower‑level employees and shares technical knowledge with team members as appropriate.
- Supports the administration and continuous improvement of plumbing‑related compliance programs and asset records, as assigned.
- Maintains compliance with University policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred:Completion of a vocational training program, technical certification program, apprenticeship, or equivalent formal training in plumbing, mechanical systems, or a related field.
EXPERIENCERequired:
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and/or commercial plumbing systems.
- Experience with plumbing systems including domestic water systems, sanitary sewer systems, storm drainage systems, piping systems, fixtures, valves, pumps, and related plumbing equipment.
- Experience performing testing, inspection, maintenance, and repair of backflow prevention devices.
- Experience with commercial plumbing systems in an institutional, higher education, healthcare, or large campus environment.
- Experience administering or supporting a backflow prevention or cross‑connection control program.
- Experience using computerized work management/CMMS systems to document work activities and maintain records.
Required:
- Knowledge of residential and commercial plumbing systems including domestic water systems, sanitary sewer systems, storm drainage systems, piping systems, fixtures, valves, pumps, and associated mechanical components.
