Holt CAT, the largest Caterpillar dealer of heavy construction equipment in the United States, is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician for the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas Region. The primary role is to conduct exceptional field service repairs on heavy construction equipment such as dozers, backhoes, front‑end loaders, and excavators, addressing issues in emissions, hydraulics, engines, transmissions, HVAC, and electrical systems. The position requires Monday‑to‑Friday, 7 am‑5 pm hours with overtime as needed.

A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required, and the candidate must be able to obtain a CDL Class B and maintain a DOT medical card.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair construction equipment using electronic and manual tools.
  • Document work orders and maintain accurate service records.
  • Diagnose Tier 4 emission systems and EGR systems.
  • Perform intermediate repairs and troubleshooting off‑site with minimal supervision.
  • Replace and install parts, disassemble and reassemble components to CAT specifications.
  • Test, adjust, and verify proper operation of all repairs.
  • Prepare and conclude all job‑related documents, service reports, parts orders, and customer records.
  • Lead and mentor team members.
  • Participate in work‑order quotations.
  • Operate equipment and vehicles with required licenses and certificates.
  • Maintain vehicle inspection records, daily inspections, and driver logs per DOT requirements.
  • Adhere to contamination control and HAZMAT rules.
  • Maintain all company equipment, tools, and vehicles in good order.
  • Communicate job progress to supervisors and customers.
  • Complete jobs to meet flat‑rate time and re‑work standards.
  • Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs.
  • Complete all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely manner.
  • Project professionalism with internal and external customers.
  • Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Diagnose and repair heavy construction equipment using electronic and manual tools.
  • Document work orders accurately.
  • Diagnose Tier 4 emission systems, fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and EGR systems.
  • Apply safe work procedures and practices.
  • Understand equipment design, usage, repair, and maintenance.
  • Hold intermediate knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, engines, undercarriage, and electrical systems.
  • Use current computer software and machine electronic systems.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Possess intermediate diagnostic and troubleshooting skills; preferred CAT ET and CAT SIS experience.
  • Plan, prioritize, and organize work activities.
  • Operate construction equipment or systems.
  • Select appropriate tools and equipment for a job.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Operate a crane, forklift, and obtain required certifications/licenses.
  • Meet deadlines in fast‑paced environments.
  • Use hand, power, pneumatic, and mechanical repair tools.
  • Perform precise manual tasks with hands and fingers.
Benefits and Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • More than four years of heavy equipment experience required; six or more years preferred.
  • Must be able to use CAT ET and CAT SIS 2.0.
  • MSHA certification preferred.
  • Air conditioning certification preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Travel: Travel required with possibility of overnight stays.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Must own required tools for repairs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to support weight without fatigue.
  • Move materials or equipment up to 80 lb frequently.
  • Require good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ascend/descend ladders and equipment using both hands and feet.
  • Maneuver safely under equipment.
  • React to visual, auditory, and other signals; inspect work visually.

Work Environment:

  • Wear common protective or safety equipment.
  • Work outdoors around moving mechanical parts; noise may be loud.
