Position DetailsPosition Type: Full-Time
Salary: $13.90 to $15.66 Per Hour
Primary PurposeThis position is a limited duration training position in which the incumbent is taught the knowledge and skills necessary to become a district Bus Driver. Within 90 days of entering the position, the incumbent must either
1) become qualified and be promoted to Bus Driver, or
2) be declared not qualified and employment terminated or assigned a bus monitor position.
- Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency) preferred
- At least 21 years of age required
- Ability to obtain a Texas Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or
B) with Passenger (P) and School (S) endorsements within 90 days of employment - Must be able to drive a vehicle with Air-Brakes
- Type 3 driving record that meets the District’s standard for operations of motor vehicles
- Ability to pass the U.S. Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). and drug tests and annual physical exam
- Meet all state (TEA) qualifications for school bus drivers
- Competency to complete required bus driver safety training
- Exceptional communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to communicate effectively in speaking, reading, and writing
- Bilingual preferred
- Ability to relate to and work well with children
- Ability to maintain effective pupil behavior management
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lift and assist students when necessary
- Prior experience working with students in a school district environment a plus
- Is a positive role model for patrons that support the goals of Waxahachie ISD
- Works effectively with others
- Reports to work on time, is available for CDL Training
- Exhibits good judgment in decision making and problem-solving
- Operates a bus safely and efficiently
- Assumes charge of the bus
- Makes neat, legible and accurate transportation records as required
- Maintains a clean bus externally and internally
- Reports maintenance problems to maintenance foreman promptly
- Demonstrates leadership with proper attendance and punctuality
- Follows the chain of command as noted in the organizational policy
- Uses time wisely to ensure productivity and efficiency

Tools/Equipment UsedStandard office equipment including computer and peripherals; school bus; two‑way radio; safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher. Includes:
- Wheelchair tie down straps
- Wheelchair lift with power and without power
- Emergency exits including doors, windows and roof hatches
- Seat belts
- Infant / toddler car seat installation / removal
- Fire extinguisher
- Body fluid clean up kit
- First Aid Kit
- Parking brake
- Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
- Vision Abilities: Close vision and color vision
- Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (10‑50 pounds)
- Environment: Frequent district wide travel; occasional statewide travel
- Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; able to work with demands of deadlines
