Job Title:

Equipment Transportation Specialist

This position is responsible for the safe transportation of industrial and commercial equipment to and from various customer job locations and branch stores. The role involves local or long‑distance hauling of equipment and supplies as well as loading, unloading, and securing the equipment.

Essential Functions
  • Deliver and pick up equipment for customers in a safe, timely, efficient, and courteous manner.
  • Secure construction equipment using chaining, strapping, and blocking in accordance with established procedures.
  • Perform pre‑ and post‑vehicle inspections and report any defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage.
  • Execute basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid and performing minor repairs.
  • Complete DOT‐required drivers daily log and trip sheets accurately and without misrepresentation.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment at job sites and make minor repairs.
  • Demonstrate proper and safe equipment usage to customers at the point of delivery.
  • Obtain required signatures on rental contracts, pick‑up, and exchange forms.
  • Assist other departments as needed in an efficient manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of construction equipment and safe driving procedures.
  • Knowledge of Motor Carrier Safety Regulations/DOT guidelines.
  • Understanding of machines and tools, including design, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to assess customer needs and provide quality service that meets standards.
  • Quality control analysis skills – conduct tests and inspections of products or services.
  • Operational control skills – manage operations of equipment or systems.
  • Equipment selection skills – determine appropriate tools and equipment for a job.
  • Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust machine or vehicle controls to exact positions.
  • Ability to read maps and operate GPS systems.
  • Maintain a clean driver’s record and demonstrate diligent attention to safety.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair.
  • Coordinate precise finger movements for grasping, manipulating, or assembling small objects.
  • Read and understand information presented in writing.
  • Listen and understand information presented verbally.
Requirements
  • Three years of driving experience preferred, with verifiable over‑the‑road experience operating combination commercial vehicles.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with Class A CDL certification and DOT Physical Examination (Medical card).
  • Experience driving delivery trucks, towing tandem‑axle utility trailers, and operating safely within high‑traffic or congested city zones and in confined areas.
  • Travel up to 100% of the time.
Physical Requirements
  • Remain stationary 100% of the time.
  • Move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to support tasks without fatigue.
  • Frequently move materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Maintain good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina for continuous limb movement.
  • Ascend/descend using hands and feet; climb ladders.
  • Safely maneuver and work underneath equipment.
  • React to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions.
Work Environment
  • Operate primarily in closed vehicles or equipment.
  • Wear common protective or safety equipment.
  • Work outdoors under all weather conditions, including heavy rain, wind, or extreme temperatures.
  • Encounter distracting or uncomfortable noise levels.
  • Expose to small quantities of chemicals, steam, high‑pressure water, and high‑speed rotating equipment.
  • Spend significant time in confined spaces or at high places.
