Position Summary
The Chaplaincy Department at JAARS is seeking a spiritually mature and servant-hearted individual to serve as an Assistant Chaplain. This person will support the Chaplaincy Team in providing spiritual encouragement, pastoral care, and Biblical encouragement to JAARS staff and families. The Assistant Chaplain will help foster an atmosphere of grace, prayer, and intentional spiritual growth throughout the organization.
The time commitment for this position is approximately 4-10 hours per week, with some flexibility based on ministry needs and availability.
Position Responsibilities
- Assist in providing pastoral care and spiritual support to staff and families through prayer, listening, and Scripture-based encouragement.
- Help lead devotions, prayer meetings, and spiritual formation gatherings.
- Support the planning and facilitation of JAARS all-staff meetings, retreats, and special events.
- Maintain regular contact with designated staff for relational care and spiritual check-ins.
- Collaborate with the Chaplaincy Team to identify and respond to spiritual needs within the organization.
- Offer one-on-one or small group discipleship as needed.
- Support crisis response care when appropriate, in coordination with chaplain team.
- A deep and growing walk with the Lord Jesus that includes your personal spiritual growth and the ability to support others in their spiritual growth.
- Embrace the vision, mission, and core values of JAARS.
- Ability to lead others by offering prayer, Scriptural encouragement, and spiritual support.
- Pastoral or ministry experience (formal or informal);
Bible college or seminary training a plus. - Willingness to serve under the direction of the Chaplaincy Team and maintain confidentiality and trust.
- A heart for shepherding cross-cultural workers and families in a supportive, non-judgmental manner.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and personal information with discretion, integrity, and respect for the privacy of individuals.
- Background check and pastoral references required.
