The Southeast Health District is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the full-time, salaried position of Accountant 4 based in Waycross, GA.

Under general supervision and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), performs advanced professional accounting and financial reporting functions to support the fiscal operations of the Southeast Health District. Reviews and oversees complex accounting transactions, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting activities to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to applicable federal, state, and agency regulations. Researches and resolves complex accounting issues while providing technical guidance, training, and mentorship to accounting staff and recommending appropriate accounting treatments.

Develops, implements, and continuously improves accounting policies, standard operating procedures, and internal controls to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen financial integrity, and ensure regulatory compliance. Serves as the primary liaison for internal and external audits by coordinating audit activities, providing supporting documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries. Assists with budget development, forecasting, and financial planning while collaborating with county health departments, district programs, and administrative departments to resolve accounting issues and ensure accurate financial reporting.

Oversees the maintenance and enhancement of accounting resources on the Southeast Health District Employee Intranet, supports financial system implementations and upgrades, and participates in process improvement initiatives to modernize accounting operations. Performs other advanced accounting, financial analysis, and reporting responsibilities as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in accounting and three (3) years of professional accounting job-related experience; or two (2) years of experience at the lower level Accountant 3 (FIP
022) or position equivalent. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in good standing is strongly preferred. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience in governmental accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, audit coordination, policy development, internal controls, financial system implementations, and providing technical guidance or mentoring to accounting staff. Candidates should possess strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with proficiency in enterprise financial systems and Microsoft Excel.
