We are looking for a hard‑working, reliable and safety‑minded individual with great customer service to join our team as a Scale Operator. The Scale Operator will be responsible for the weighing and grading of incoming scrap loads, operate Ferrous and Non‑Ferrous scales for inbound and outbound trucks, direct drivers to the appropriate unloading locations, facilitate payment for inbound material, and complete all required documentation.
Basic office tasks will also be performed until the end of the work day. Monday through Saturday hours are required.
This position works inside and outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
Responsibilities- Operate the scale to weigh all inbound and outbound trucks.
- Review, inspect, and document inbound loads.
- Direct drivers to the proper yard location for loading/unloading.
- Complete all required documentation for vehicles and loads entering or leaving the yard.
- Remain positive, punctual, and professional at all times.
- Participate in scale testing for accuracy and report any malfunctions or concerns to the general manager.
- Process payments and keep accurate records of all transactions.
- Assist customers with questions on pricing and material types and maintain account contacts to promote continued business.
- Perform general office duties.
- Complete training for both Ferrous and Non‑Ferrous scale operation.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Reliable and punctual attendance.
- Must pass a credit and background check.
- Must pass physical and drug screening.
- 2+ years’ experience operating truck scales, preferably in a scrap metal or similar industry.
- Ability to develop and maintain constructive working relationships with customers and co‑workers.
- Excellent phone etiquette and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, with computer, organizational, and mathematical skills, basic negotiation skills, and ability to multi‑task.
- Intermediate understanding of Microsoft Office and ability to learn industry‑specific software.
- Bilingual (English & Spanish) language skills is a plus.
