QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current LPN licensure by the State Board of Nursing
  • Available to work holidays and weekends as scheduling requires
  • Good physical health condition and pass a physical examination

  • Ability to verbalize and understand patients' charts, doctors' orders, nursing care plan, and medication orders necessary to present information and ideas to residents, family, and other staff
  • Some clerical knowledge is required to prepare and review records and charts
  • Possess good people skills with the ability to work directly with residents, family, doctors, and staff
  • Knowledge of nursing facility rules and regulations and the discipline to work in accordance with accepted nursing and medical standards

  • Ability to supervise and instruct nursing, assistants, ward clerks, and students
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change as work schedules will change on a daily basis

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB

  • Ability to walk and stand continuously for a minimum of 1 hour frequently

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Work is inside (may be required to go outside occasionally).

As required by OSHA an exposure evaluation has been done based on a reasonably anticipated contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials that may result from the performance of employee duties. Based on the evaluation Licensed Practical Nurse has a High Risk for exposure.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND WORK AIDS

Medical equipment, resident charts, care plans, records and reports, work schedules, and fax machines

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Renders LPN nursing care to patients in support of medical care directed by an RN/Charge Nurse and by Medical Staff.
  • Performs LPN nursing techniques for the comfort and well-being of the patient.
  • Provides treatment and medications, orally, topically, rectally, and injections per policy.
  • Observes patients' reactions to medications and treatments.
  • Provide treatments in wound care by changing dressings and cleaning wounds or incisions.
  • Takes temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, and heartbeat to detect deviations from normal.
  • Gauges progress of patient following physician's orders and approved nursing care plan.
  • Observes, records, and reports to DON, ADON, Charge Nurse, or RN patients' condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
  • Document in the medical records on LPN nursing observations and actions taken such as medications and treatments given, reactions, tests, intake and emission of liquids and solids, temperature, pulse, and respiration rate.
