Utility Worker Summary

Works on construction projects in a utility capacity, transferring from one task to another as needed. Requires a worker with varied experience who can work independently and perform the duties listed.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small‑group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one‑ or two‑step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Must be able to pass a 7‑panel drug screen.
Education and/or Experience

Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small‑group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with tens and hundreds; ability to read a tape measurer accurately.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one‑ or two‑step instructions; ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Physical Demands

The employee must regularly stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work

Environment

The employee will be working at a rapid pace within the production line, exposed to moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, wet or humid conditions, outside weather, and electrical shock. Loud noise level is typical.
