We have an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Assistant to join our Pharmacy team at HMP Wayland, a category C prison located in Thetford.
HMP Wayland is a male prison that houses around 900 inmates. The prison focuses on resettlement and offers training in preparation for release. We are recruiting for a Pharmacy Assistant to support the pharmacy team with tasks such as medication rounds, vaccinations and nicotine replacement programmes. Experience in Phlebotomy and Vaccinations would be desirable however we are able to train if you have a background in pharmacy.
Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.
What you'll be doingAs a Pharmacy Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. You will
- Complete general dispensary duties and stock management
- Be an active member of the Pharmaceutical team to ensure delivery of the pharmaceutical service
- Provide a timely and efficient service to the prison wings
- Receive prescriptions and stick returns from wing based clinical areas
- Collect orders from suppliers from the Main Gate and arrange collection of returns
- Participate in dispensing of prescriptions

- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Service Skills/equivalent or working towards
- Medicines handling experience desirable not essential
- Level 2 English and Maths or equivalent
- A non-judgmental and compassionate approach
- Excellent communication skills
- Good IT skills and IT literacy
- Ability to work within a busy environment
- Ability to work unsupervised whilst following policy and procedures
