Looking to put your construction expertise to work in a flexible, rewarding role? The City of Wayne is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Part-Time Building Inspector to join our team!
Hourly Rate: $43.96
Flexible
Schedule:
Up to 28 hours per week
- Enforce building codes and ordinances with professionalism and accuracy
- Review permit applications and construction plans
- Conduct on-site inspections across all phases of construction
- Provide clear code/ordinance interpretations
- Issue violation notices or stop-work orders as needed
- Assist homeowners, builders, architects, engineers, and the general public
- Communicate technical requirements with confidence
- Support the Building Official with code updates and review processes
- May appear in court to present inspection findings
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 4+ years of building construction experience
- Michigan Act 407 Building Inspector License (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
- Strong knowledge of Michigan Building & Residential Codes
- Valid Michigan driver’s license
- Computer proficiency (BS&A experience a plus)
- Ability to work effectively with the public
- Preferred: experience in commercial building, zoning, property maintenance, or housing inspection
