Position Summary

This position is within the Wayne Police Department. Officers will make arrests, enforce laws, conduct traffic enforcement, engage in community policing, and other police matters.

The Wayne Police Department is looking for qualified candidates to fill the position of Police Officer. The department is in southeast Michigan, just north of Detroit Metropolitan Airport, and is a six-square-mile city bordered by Westland, Canton, and Romulus.

The department operates seven days a week and requires 12‑hour shifts, providing officers with a three‑day weekend every other weekend. It has special units including the Detective Bureau, K9, Accident Investigation, Quick Response Team, School Resource Officer, and Drone Team.

The policy is relaxed regarding tattoos and facial hair, it allows external vest carriers, and the facility includes an on‑site gym and gun range.

Salary range for the Police Officer position is $63,000 - $84,001 yearly.

• Associate degree preferred
• 21 years of age or older
• Must possess current Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) licensing or be licensable prior to the job posting deadline
• Must take EMPCO test prior to hire
• Must maintain a valid Michigan driver's license and have no more than three points on driving record
• Must maintain the State of Michigan‑mandated firearms qualification
• No Domestic Violence Convictions or Felony Convictions
• Prior to the date of hire, selected candidates will undergo and must successfully pass a drug test, physical, psychological exam, and a thorough background investigation
