Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse / ADON provides and coordinates quality nursing care for residents; implements specific procedures and programs; coordinates work within the department, as well as with other departments; reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor; responds to inquiries or requests for information; and assists the immediate supervisor with tasks to support department operations.
- Position includes coordinating and providing quality nursing care to residents; promoting residents’ rights, dignity, freedom of choice and individuality.
- Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of residents in the delivery of services; interact with residents warmly to promote a caring environment.
- Use the Nursing Process to Assess, Plan, Implement and Evaluate care; ensure care is individualized to residents’ needs and preferences.
- Uphold residents’ rights, including freedom from restraints and abuse; report incidents to the Abuse Coordinator, Charge Nurse and administrative staff as required.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, neat and clean environment; address environmental deficiencies or escalate to the Director of Nursing as needed.
- Provide individualized attention to support residents in attaining the highest practical physical, mental and psychosocial well-being.
- Supervise other health care team members (nurses, assistants, LPNs); ensure compliance with standards, policies and procedures.
- Intervene when changes in patients’ conditions are observed or reported.
- Administer prescribed medications and/or start IV fluids/medications; document times and amounts on patients’ charts.
- Administer treatments as ordered; monitor effectiveness and document response.
- Measure and monitor vital signs, height, weight, intake and output.
- Collect samples (blood, urine, sputum) and perform routine laboratory tests; assess diagnostic results and report to physician.
- Document care provided clearly and completely.
- Ensure residents’ hygiene, mobility, nutrition, safety and skin care needs are met; provide assistance as needed.
- Answer call bells promptly and courteously.
- Assist with orienting residents and families to the nursing home on admission or during transfers.
- Lift, move and transport residents using proper body mechanics and lifting devices.
- Communicate effectively with residents, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.
- Practice efficient use of supplies and linen; follow charge procedures for resident charges.
- Adhere to safety and infection control procedures, including hand hygiene, gloves where indicated and proper disposal of soiled materials.
- Walks throughout the unit during rounds and transports residents as needed; promote a homelike environment.
- Respond to inquiries regarding area or requests from residents, visitors and staff within established time frames and policy.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information in compliance with policies and regulations.
- Complete mandatory training provided by the facility in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as requested.
- Education / Training:
Graduate of accredited RN program (Diploma or Associate degree). - Must hold a current RN license in the State of Michigan in good standing.
- Work Experience:
One (1) year of clinical nursing experience in a Long-Term Care setting preferred. - Certification, Licensure, Registration:
Current BLS certification. - Other
Qualifications:
Must be able to read, write and understand English; strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work in a team-oriented environment; ability to gather and assess patient information from multiple sources and relay accurately to staff; basic keyboard familiarity and ability to use facility information and electronic medical record software as required; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Conditions
- Physical Effort:
Walking, standing, heavy lifting and bending for most of shift. - Works in a patient care environment with exposure to x-rays, infectious diseases, contaminated needles, odors and patient care activities.
