Westland Outpatient Pharmacy - Casual/PRN Position

Westland Outpatient Pharmacy is located in the lobby of the main entrance, directly to the left once you enter the main doors.

About The Department

We offer outpatient pharmacy services such as patient counseling, curbside delivery upon request, over-the-counter items, and special order medication upon request.

Scope of Work

Under the direction and supervision of a Pharmacist, performs a variety of functions related to preparation, storage, distribution, and dispensing of prescriptions. Within the hospital, rotation through IV admixture and unit dose service is routine. Performs data entry and other record keeping functions as determined to be necessary to the operations of the department.

  • Fills medication orders including oral, injectable and topical medications and intravenous admixtures.
  • Enters patient demographics, insurance information and prescriptions into the pharmacy information system, prioritizing scripts for customers waiting. Appropriately handles and reprocesses rejected claims.
  • Processes prescriptions, retrieves correct medication, fills and labels prescriptions and attaches any necessary notifications.
  • Files completed scripts in the patient pickup bins after pharmacist verification.
  • Answers telephone and assists customers at the lobby counter and Pharmacy drive‑through window.
  • Updates and electronically transmits the daily drug order – monitors and documents/communicates special orders and shortages.
  • Processes daily drug order from wholesaler, stocks drug shelves, checks for outdated drugs, logs controlled drugs and files invoices. Contacts supplier to resolve discrepancies on invoice.
  • Distributes prepared medications to patient care areas, patient bedside and/or other departments of the Hospital.
  • Reconciles cash drawer twice daily (opening and closing) and documents per policy. Performs other record keeping duties as required.
  • Assists in training of new staff and acts as a resource for IT support personnel.
  • Maintains work area in a safe and orderly manner.
  • Cleaning and dusting of work areas and shelves. Disinfecting of high touch points such as counters, credit card devices, phones, counting utensils and signature pads.
  • May rotate to other outpatient pharmacy sites/home delivery pharmacy as needed.
Qualifications
  • Required:

    A level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of a general high school diploma program or GED.
  • Experience with sterile compounding and/or 6 months technician experience and/or graduate of an ASHP accredited technician training program. Preferred.
  • LIC-Pharmacy Technician – . State of Michigan. Upon Hire required.
  • LIC-Pharmacist Intern – . State of Michigan. Upon Hire required.
