JobPurpose
As a Road Call Mechanic, you will provide emergency mechanical support to the fleet while on the road, diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operation of waste collection services. Requirements include a Chauffeur’s License, a valid DOT Medical Card, and at least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide on‑site mechanical support for waste management vehicles, including trucks, trailers, and related equipment that may break down while in service.
- Quickly diagnose and repair issues to minimize operational disruption.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues and perform immediate field repairs.
- Ensure repairs are made safely and efficiently.
- Conduct preventive maintenance checks and inspections to identify potential problems before breakdowns.
- Ensure vehicles are ready for operation and safe.
- Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns dispatched by operations.
- Travel to various job sites to perform roadside repairs and return vehicles to service quickly.
- Coordinate with dispatchers, drivers, and other mechanics for efficient repairs.
- Adhere to safety regulations and DOT compliance guidelines.
- Ensure vehicles are roadworthy and meet all safety standards before return to service.
- Valid Chauffeur’s License (required)
- Valid DOT Medical Card (required)
- Welding experience preferred
- Willingness to travel
- Ability to work in varied weather conditions (rain, heat, snow, etc.)
- Understanding of work orders and labor time standards
- Experience with maintenance on trailers and heavy machinery
- Additional certifications (e.g., ASE, CDL) are a plus but not required
- Minimum 5 years as a heavy‑duity technician
- Ability to perform basic inspections: brakes, drivetrain, emissions, hydraulics, transmissions, engine, steering, suspension
