As a Road Call Mechanic with Priority, you will be responsible for providing emergency mechanical support to the fleet while on the road. This includes diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues to minimize downtime and ensure the smooth operation of waste collection services. The ideal candidate will have a Chauffeur’s License, a valid DOT Medical Card, and at least five years of experience in a similar role.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Provides on-site mechanical support for the fleet of waste management vehicles, including waste collection trucks, trailers, and other related equipment that may break down while in service.
- Quickly diagnoses and repairs issues to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
- Diagnoses mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues and performs immediate repairs in the field.
- Ensures repairs are made safely and efficiently.
- Conducts preventive maintenance checks and inspections to identify potential mechanical problems before they lead to breakdowns.
- Ensures that the vehicles are ready to go and safe for operations.
- Responds promptly to emergency breakdowns as dispatched by the operations team.
- Travels to various job sites to perform roadside repairs and ensure vehicles are returned to service as soon as possible.
- Coordinates with dispatchers, drivers, and other mechanics to ensure all repairs are handled quickly and efficiently.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and DOT compliance guidelines.
- Ensures that vehicles are roadworthy and meet all safety standards before they are returned to service.
- Valid Chauffeur’s License is required.
- Valid DOT Medical Card is required.
- Welding experience preferred.
- Must be willing to travel.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions (rain, heat, snow, etc.).
- Understands work orders and labor time standards.
- Experience with maintenance to be performed on trailers and heavy machinery.
- Additional certifications (e.g., ASE, CDL) are a plus but not required.
- Minimum five years as a heavy‑duty technician.
- Must be able to perform basic inspections of brakes, drivetrain, emissions, hydraulics, transmissions, general engine, steering, and suspension.
