Senior Indirect Tax Accountant

Summary

The Senior Indirect Tax Accountant is responsible for managing indirect tax compliance and related reporting across U.S. and Canadian jurisdictions. The role prepares and files sales and use tax, commercial rent and GST/HST returns, supports audits, maintains tax research proficiency, and handles special projects and property tax renditions. This position works cross-functionally to gather data, analyze accounts, and ensure timely and accurate indirect tax accounting.

• Prepare and file sales and use tax returns, NYC commercial rent tax returns, and Canadian GST/HST returns
• Prepare and file legal entity annual reports, business licenses and permits, and validate resale certificates
• Gather data, identify asset locations, and prepare property tax renditions for compliance
• Assist with indirect tax audits including data gathering, account analysis and reconciliation
• Maintain proficiency in state and local tax laws using tax research software
• Research complex tax issues and work on special projects as required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; advanced degree a plus
• 3+ years of relevant indirect tax or accounting experience; retail experience a plus
• Knowledge of Vertex O Series, Vertex Returns, Avalara, and ERP systems (Oracle, SAP)
• Experience researching state and local tax laws using tools such as CCH, TTR, BNA or Checkpoint
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel; experience with database tools such as Alteryx is a plus
• Organized, detail oriented, with strong judgment, critical thinking and collaborative skills
