Job Summary

William Paterson University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position for the  academic year at the rank of Assistant Professor in the teacher education programs in the College of Education, Department of Teacher Education, PreK-12. The position starts August 25, 2026.

Department Overview

The Department of Teacher Education, PreK-12 offers undergraduate and graduate initial certification programs that prepare candidates to become effective, knowledgeable teachers in early childhood (P-3), elementary (K-6) and secondary (K-12) classrooms. With a commitment to serve the needs of our community, the department offers multiple pathways to teacher certification, including Bachelor's;
Master of Teaching (MAT), and alternate route options. In addition, the Master of Education (M.Ed.) in early childhood education program is designed for educators who wish to further advance their professional expertise and leadership skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaching

* Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in teaching, learning and assessment to initial certification candidates.

* Teach 24 credits annually of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in a variety of formats: online, hybrid, and in-person.

* Supervise candidates in the field.

Service

* Attend department and college meetings and participate in activities and events of the department, college, and university designed for student recruitment, retention and graduation.

* Participate in accreditation review processes as well as curriculum and program development.

* Participate in service to the department, college, university and community.

Scholarship

* Enact a research agenda with consistent productivity as evidenced by peer-reviewed presentations, peer-reviewed journal publications, grant activity, and other field appropriate scholarly activity.

Required Qualifications:

* An earned doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction, teacher education or an appropriate related field of expertise. ABD may be considered.

* Experience in PreK-12 teaching.

* Expertise in curriculum development.

* Knowledge of national and state curricular standards and assessments.

* Evidence of effective college level teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, preferably in multiple modalities.

* Experience in use of Black Board or another learning management system, and technological tools to facilitate teaching and learning.

* Evidence of active participation in professional organizations and a commitment to educating diverse learners and fostering multicultural and global perspectives.

* Evidence of prior scholarship or potential for scholarship and research.

Salary - AFT Range 24

* Customary Starting Salary at Steps, 1-4, negotiable
